To celebrate the one-year anniversary of San Diego Filmmakers, we're going to take a look back at three award winning short films made in the last year by actual San Diego filmmakers. Each of these extraordinary efforts will be followed by an informative Q&A with the filmmakers.

For the San Diego installment of this year's 48 Hour Film Project, writer/director J.P. Pierce and producer Kennedy Stone of Genesis Films put together a hilarious parody of the Mac vs. PC commercials. Created entirely in 48 consecutive hours, "It's A Wonderful iLife" walked away with four awards: Best Writing, Best Directing, Best Film and the Audience Award.

SDSU film students Destin Cretton and Lowell Frank of Flagpop Productions co-wrote and co-directed "Bartholomew's Song." The surreal 10-minute short has played at 12 festivals and won four awards, including Best College Drama and Best of the Fest at this year's BestFest America, the nation's largest student film festival. It then went on to receive a 2006 Student Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Narrative Short.

The winner of the March 2006 edition of the national DV Challenge short film competition was San Diego's Bill Gardner. The former Qualcomm VP of Engineering and Technology came up with some clever special effects for his vampire comedy "Love Bites" starring SDF treasurer Jason Gordon and beat out 30 other competing short films. He is currently in post-production on the sequel.
