The First Assistant Director (1st AD) is critical to keeping a production running smoothly. When a director finds a good one, he or she will fight to work with them again and again. The 1st AD needs to find the delicate balance between supporting the creative needs of the director and successfully navigating the logistics of getting the production through the shooting day. The 2nd AD is responsible for making sure all the actors are on the set when they are needed. The 2nd AD also updates schedules on a daily basis. Find out how one successful AD got started in this important position and continued to work on many major studio films. HOPE GOODWIN began her film career as a second unit DGA Trainee
on The Electric Horseman starring Robert Redford and Jane
Fonda. She has 1st or 2nd AD credits on such films as The Karate
Kid (parts 1 and 3), Beverly Hills Cop II, Rocky V,
Stephen King's Sometimes They Come Back, and Denzel Washington's
Antwone Fisher.Hope will tell us not only what the assistant director
does, but what a GOOD assistant director does, based on her years of experience
finding the most effective ways to keep the cast and crew on schedule. Come network with your San Diego filmmaking peers from 6-7pm (NEW STARTING TIME!), then stay to learn about the importance of a great assistant director! Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! And please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. See you there.
