MEETING TOPIC 3/13/07: Everything You Need to Know about Making Your Movie in San Diego

The San Diego Film Commission's Vice President/Director of Feature Films, Kathy McCurdy, returns to SDF this month to answer your questions about what the SDFC can do to help you make your movie in San Diego. The film commission is an important resource for every filmmaker in San Diego and this month's networking event is an opportunity you don't want to miss.

Since the late 1970s, Kathy worked in San Diego as a production coordinator and location manager on national commercials, corporate videos, and movies-of-the-week for Paramount and the USA Network. In 1994, she joined our film commission and became its COO in 1997. Kathy continues to work with feature films, from no-budget indies with over 150 independent filmmakers, to such studio extravaganzas as Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, Steven Soderbergh's Traffic, and Dreamworks' Anchorman starring Will Ferrell. In addition, she works with student films and oversees the intern program and other mentoring and educational outreach efforts.

Kathy will provide us with invaluable information about the permit process for all of San Diego, including insurance requirements, public perception, public safety, liability and much more. Learn about the production process, and how your pre-production is critical to your success. Kathy brings tips on what to avoid, where to cut corners and where NOT to cut corners, what local resources are available to filmmakers and what's the nature of the marketplace here in San Diego.

Come network with your San Diego filmmaking peers from 6-7pm (NEW STARTING TIME!), then stay to learn about filmmaking in San Diego!

Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! And please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. See you there.
