Screenwriters have to "pitch" their ideas to producers. Producers have to pitch to investors, distributors, sometimes even talent. If you want your cast and crew to work for nothing but meals and a screen credit, you have to get them excited about your project. That is the art of the pitch. Imperial Beach resident JIMMY DIGGS has sold more freelance episodes of "Star Trek" than any other writer in history. This month, Jimmy will share with us exactly what it's like to be in the hot seat, in front the Big Hollywood Producers, with only a handful of minutes in which to dazzle them enough to get them to write you a check and put your work on the screen. Jimmy will tell us how he started as a security guard at Stu Segall
Productions, where he pitched an idea for the cop show "Renegade"
to its executive producer while helping him find his keys. We'll hear
how that one pitch eventually led Jimmy to a writing internship for the
"Star Trek" franchise, and to eight produced episodes
of "Star Trek: Voyager" and one "Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine." It's an amazing journey you won't want to miss. Beam yourself over to Brilliant Screen Studios to network with your San Diego filmmaking peers and check out the awesome new sound stage and production facilities from 6-7 PM. Then stay to find out what it's like to write for "Star Trek!" Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! And please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. See you there.
