MEETING TOPIC 6/12/07: Making Digital Video Look Like Film

Recent advances in digital video technology have brought us 24p and affordable high definition, inching us closer to the elusive "film look". But one thing that still screams "video" from a mile away is the lack of a shallow depth-of-field used by cinematographers to artfully draw the viewer's attention to the primary subject. The Redrock Micro M2 lens adapter kit outfits small CCD cameras with a 35mm SLR camera lens and projects the image onto a rotating ground glass. The image is then captured by the video camera's fixed lens giving you the kind of selective focus usually only available when using a film camera.

Brian Valente of Redrock Micro will give a demonstration of the M2 and answer questions about this exciting new technology. Learn all about how lens adapters work, when you should use one and when you shouldn't, and see clips showing the dramatic difference lens adapters can make in your next production.

We'll also have prizes to give away, including two festival passes to all four screenings of the 48 Hour Film Project on July 18 and 19 at the Hillcrest Cinemas, a $40 value!

Come network with your San Diego filmmaking peers from 6-7 PM, then stay to learn how to make your digital videos look more like film!

Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! And please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. See you there.
