MEETING TOPIC 9/11/07: The Hollywood Gatekeepers

When you send your screenplay to a studio or agent, they assign it to a Story Analyst, whose job it is to suffer through thousands of scripts with weak plots and one-dimensional characters until they come across the one great script that they think their boss should buy. Will it be yours?

MIKE STERN has been one of those gatekeepers keeping your work off the silver screen for years. As winner of United Talent Agency's College Screenwriting Competition and several other writing awards, grants, and fellowships, Mike worked as a story analyst for Sony Pictures and William Morris Agency, providing screenplay coverage for such hits as Monster, Something's Gotta Give, Elf, and The Interpreter. His film Final Cut was sold to Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video in 2000 and his film Study Break was shown on AMC's MonsterFest.

Find out from this seasoned pro what it takes to get your script past the Hollywood Gatekeepers. Learn the Top Five Mistakes most new writers make. Ask Mike answers your questions about how to improve your screenplay's chances of being turned into a Major Motion Picture.

Come network with your San Diego filmmaking peers from 6-7 PM, then stay to learn the secrets of the Hollywood Gatekeepers!

Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! And please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. See you there.
