Student Academy Award® Winner, Gregg Helvey, has traveled the world to film in countries such as El Salvador, China, Kenya and England. He recently graduated from USC's graduate school of Cinematic Arts and is on a path to combine his interest for social justice issues with his filmmaking talents.
Gregg's USC thesis film, Kavi, recently won the 36th Annual Student Academy Award® Gold medal in the narrative category. It was filmed entirely in India and tells the story of a young boy in India who wants to play cricket and go to school, but instead is forced to work in a brick kiln as a modern-day slave. Kavi must either accept what he's always been told, or fight for a different life. More information is available at www.KaviTheMovie.com
Come network with your San Diego filmmaking peers from 6-7 PM, then join us for a special screening of Kavi before Gregg answers your questions on filming overseas and winning an Oscar®!
Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! Please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. If you aren't connected with us on MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter, now's a good time to do so and spead the word about this meeting!
