Shooting on location is often critical to the success of a project, but setting up a location shoot can seem difficult and sometimes downright overwhelming. The logistics of coordinating the shooting permits, the police, homeowners, neighbors, and everything else that goes into location shooting is no doubt a formidable task. Then there is the issue of insurance which many of use tend to avoid like poison ivy, we just don't' even want to think about it! Author, Speaker, and former Director at the San Diego Film Commission, Kathy McCurdy, will talk about the process of setting up a location shoot and seeing that everything goes smoothly and address some of the common issues that arise with location shooting. Joining Kathy will be Paul Lopez Vice President of Snapp & Associates Entertainment, Film, & Media Division. Paul will address the topic of insurance and how it can smooth the way for your next production.

Kathy M. McCurdy started her career as a PA on a San Diego Zoo commercial in 1978. For the next 10 years she worked as a production coordinator and production manager on national commercials and produced several projects for Kaiser Permanente. After 5 years as a Location Manager in San Diego for USA Network she joined the San Diego Film Commission and for 16 years oversaw TV movies and then moved in to the position of Director, Feature Films for teh SD Film Commission. Currently, Kathy is an author and lecturer, finishing a book for Focal Press. SHOOT ON LOCATION: Everything you need to know to shoot on location whatever your budget or experience is the ultimate how-to guide for anyone venturing out into the real world with cameras and crew.
