Lighting comes first in the phrase "Lights, camera, action!" because lighting is absolutely essential in creating a mood that allows audiences to become emotional over flickering, two-dimensional moving images. It can make all the difference to a shot being beautifully framed with the best performance your actor has ever given, or ending up on the cutting room floor. This month, Director of Photography MICHAEL BRUEGGEMEYER will share his secret tips with a practical demonstration of how he paints with light to capture just the right texture for any type of scene. Mike Brueggemeyer has not done makeup. But when it comes to film and video production, he has done almost everything else. First a P.A, then Second Wardrobe assistant, then motorhome driver, then film camera assistant, then Director of Photography, then Steadicam operator, then Producer/Director, then Production Company, then editor and post effects, Mike's experience has been very broad. But throughout, his passion for communication, storytelling and engaging the audience has been paramount. Mike recently re-entered the freelance arena, and is genuinely gleeful to face the next stage of what has been a long and fun career. Come network with your San Diego filmmaking peers from 6-7 PM, then stay to learn professional lighting secrets! Don't forget to bring your business cards and head shots! And please be sure to tell everyone you know in the San Diego filmmaking community about this exciting, free event. See you there.
