Thanks to digital technology, new editors can easily create amazing, thrilling, and beautiful visuals. But, when you ask them "why?," too often the answer is, "because I thought it was cool." This month, award-winning filmmaker BRENT ALTOMARE will deconstruct scenes from famous (and not-so-famous) films to show how the editor used the tricks in their arsenal to propel the story and deepen the characters, while creating cool art at the same time. Even if you're not an editor, don't worry -- this presentation will include valuable insights for directing, writing, art direction, cinematography, and acting, as well.

Brent Altomare combines a strong business background with a fervent desire to be creative. After receiving his B.A. in Directing from Pepperdine University, Brent worked for his father at the San Diego Auto Trader. When the business was sold in 2000, Brent's entrepreneurial spirit drove him to create Groovy Like a Movie, one of the 25 largest production companies in San Diego according to the San Diego Business Journal. Storytelling is the key to Brent's creative philosophy at Groovy. Every element that goes on the screen must drive the story forward. When not working, Brent enjoys writing at coffee shops, spending time with his wife and baby girl, eating (oh, how he loves eating!), working out (because of all the eating), traveling, and watching television and movies.
