MEETING TOPIC 7/8/08: Don't Move to LA to Make Your Feature

Despite what you have been told, you do not have to move to Los Angeles to shoot a successful indie feature. Writer-director-actor JAMES VASQUEZ will talk about the challenges, trials and triumphs of bringing his vision to the screen in his native San Diego. He will be joined by members of the cast and crew of READY? OK!, which premiered here only three months ago and has already been accepted into festivals in New York, LA, Philadelphia, San Francisco, North Carolina and Baltimore. We'll also find out how their previous feature, also shot here in America's Finest City, was picked up for nationwide distribution by TLA Releasing.

JAMES VASQUEZ has appeared Off-Broadway and regionally at the Old Globe Theatre. He is a graduate of the Julliard School of Drama and has been responsible for re-staging the local production of "The Grinch" for the past five years. He co-founded Daisy 3 Pictures in 2004.

Actress CARRIE PRESTON can be seen on Alan Ball's HBO series "True Blood" and in Woody Allen's upcoming "Vicky Christina Barcelona." She has also appeared on "Desperate Housewives," "Lost," "Law & Order," "Sex and the City" and in the Oscar-nominated "Transamerica" and Robert Redford's "The Legend of Bagger Vance" among her many other screen credits. She stars in and co-produced "Ready? OK!" and co-founded Daisy 3 Pictures.

Producer/editor MARK HOLMES, also a founding partner of Daisy 3 Pictures, runs its San Diego production studio. First Assistant Director TRACI VAN WYK gained exposure to film through the 48 Hour Film Project and networked with the Daisy 3 Pictures gang while working at the Old Globe Theatre.
